We are excited to share our school-wide theme for 2023-24: "Rooted and Built Up". Throughout the school year, this theme will serve as a springboard for classroom conversation, chapel services, and activities. Students at all grade levels will unite around a common idea that is grounded in spiritual truth (Col. 2:6-7).
During the 2023-24 school year at MHBS, we are prayerfully committing to our charge to help each and every student be rooted and built up in the truth and love of Christ Jesus. Join with us as we seek to deepen our spiritual roots.

Mars Hill Bible School Announces Preschool and Elementary Expansion
FLORENCE, AL – A preschool and elementary building expansion project will be formally announced at Mars Hill Bible School at a private groundbreaking ceremony on Wednesday, October 18.
The 12,000 square foot addition includes six preschool classrooms, five elementary classrooms, and administrative offices. It will also include a tornado shelter. Initial site work and road adjustments began in early June, and the project is expected to be completed in time for the start of the 2024-25 school year. The $4 million project was designed by Lambert Ezell Durham Architecture, and construction is being completed by Carbine Construction Company.
“MHBS has experienced tremendous enrollment growth over the past four years, and we expect that growth to continue. In addition, the demand for our preschool program is far greater than our current facilities can accommodate,” said Lori Tays, Vice President for External Relations. “Our goal is to retain the small class sizes and student-centric learning initiatives that our families currently enjoy while also expanding to meet the needs of more families in the Shoals community. This project is a critical step in attaining that goal.”
The school’s TK-12 enrollment increased in 2022-23 by 15% over the previous year, followed by another 10% increase in 2023-24. Current enrollment stands at 630 students in grades TK-12, with an additional 130 students in the preschool program. The Florence campus also welcomed over 35 preschool students from the Muscle Shoals campus after the closure of that facility. “The word is out about the extraordinary work being done at Mars Hill. Families want to be a part of the outstanding Christian education that has taken place on this campus for over 150 years,” said Dr. Laws Rushing II, president of Mars Hill Bible School. “The school is thriving, and we look forward to celebrating this expansion of our facilities.”
Founded in 1871, Mars Hill Bible School is a private, co-educational Christian school that encompasses TK-12th grades and a robust preschool program. The mission of MHBS is to encourage academic excellence and raise up committed, Christ-filled servant leaders who will make a difference in their own neighborhoods and around the world.
