J.V. VOLLEYBALL TEAMS OPEN SEASON WITH VICTORY

The Junior Varsity Volleyball team won their opening match @ Waterloo on Aug. 24.  They defeated Waterloo in four games (best three of five), taking the first game 25-8, losing the second game 21-25 and taking the 3rd and 4th games 25-22 and 25-18.  The team was led in serve points by Olivia Willingham with 16 and Hallie Abernathy with 13 (five aces).  Olivia also contributed six aces and eight kills.  Tiffany Allen had three aces and two kills.  Bailey Plunket had four aces and four kills.  Tatyana Rutherford had an ace and two kills.  Hope Clark contributed to the wins with two aces, one kill and numerous passes.

VOLLEYBALL TEAMS OPEN SEASON WITH VICTORIES

Mars Hill Bible School’s 7th Grade volleyball team defeated Russellville in 4 games (3-1 in best 3 of 5) at Russellville on Aug 19.  They were led in serving by Sarah Hester.  MHBS scored 19 points off her serves. The 8th grade team also defeated Russellville in 4 games (3-1 in best 3 of 5).  They were led in serving by Shelby Patterson who served for 26 earned points and ended the match with a kill.  Mary Brooke Willis led the team with several key kills.

IMPROVED SQUAD MULTIPLIES WIN TOTAL

By the end of the third season of varsity volleyball competition, the number of times the Lady Panthers entered the victory column showed a significant improvement. The 2009-2010 squad carded 15 wins, double that of a year earlier. With almost the entire squad returning for the 2010-2011 season, the prospects for Coach Brittany Underwood's team look bright.

Although they may not be as flashy or audience-pleasing as a dig or a kill, set-ups/assists are the critical component in volleyball success and the Lady Panthers showed significant improvements this season.

 

 

TEAM LEADERS 2009-2010

  • Alex Lauderdale averaged four kills and seven assists per game and was 82% from the serving line.
  • Anne Marie Mitchell averaged two kills and eight assists per game and was 70% from the serving line.
  • Jessie Bratcher averaged six assists per game and was 75% from the serving line.
  • Sara Bayles averaged two kills and three assists per game.
  • Natalie Rickard averaged five assists per game.
  • Hannah Miles averaged nine assists per game.
  • Emily Glover averaged three kills per game.
  • Caitlin Grossheim averaged 12 assists per game.
