Seventeen consecutive trips to the state playoffs: MHBS soccer hopes to live up to tradition and return to the state's Final Four in Huntsville.

LADY PANTHERS LOSE TO UMS-WRIGHT IN STATE SEMI-FINALS

After surrendering three quick goals to highly-regarded UMS-Wright out of Mobile, the Lady Panther defense played 30 minutes of solid defense turning back numerous scoring opportunities. Unfortunately, the offense could never mount a threat and MHBS dropped a 3-0 decision. The squad finished the year with a 12-12 record.

LADY PANTHERS RETURN TO THE FINAL FOUR VIA SHOOTOUT

The girl's soccer team's defense bent but never broke against a ranked Jacksonville team in Friday's quarterfinals. Junior Gracie Garrett recorded 15 saves, including the first two shots during the shootout, as the Lady Panthers held Jacksonville's offense in check through a full game and two overtimes and dealt the knockout with a 4-2 win in the shootout. Goals by Cassie Hulsey, Taylor Wideman, Morgan Leavitt and Lindsay Butler and the two early saves by Garrett made the difference.

SIXTEEN AREA TITLES! SEVENTEEN TRIPS TO THE PLAYOFFS

Coach Daniel Dixon and the Panthers made their seventeenth consecutive trip to the area state playoffs when the Panthers traveled to Jacksonville in the sub-state playoff opener. They played last year's state runner-up to a near draw before losing 2-0 in the quarters. MHBS finished area play with a 6-2 mark, defeating area champion, West Morgan, 5-2 on their home field in the area finale. The Panthers have been led by a diverse scoring attack that includes George Achard, Jan Hardelauf, Connor Lyons, Alex Stutts, Evan Wright and Dillon Whitten. Without their starting goalie for almost the entire year, freshman Carson Perreault has stepped into the role in a very effective manner. MHBS won their final home game of the year 8-0 over Athens Bible School as senior Evan Wright scored three goals.

LADY PANTHERS WIN AREA TITLE; HOST WESTBROOK CHRISTIAN

After losing eight starters off last year's Final-Four squad, Coaches Jeff Butler and Nathan Knox faced a task of molding an enthusiastic but inexperienced team into shape to defend the area title. After a difficult start against larger schools (losing six games to 5A-6A schools), the Lady Panthers hit their stride by marching through area play undefeated (6-0) and finished strong. The Lady Panthers were led in scoring by Taylor Wideman (14 goals; 5 assists), Morgan Leavitt (8 goals; 3 assists), Caitlin Grossheim (6 goals), Cassie Hulsey (3 goals), Anna Katherine Green (3 goals) and Lindsay Butler (2 goals). Junior Gracie Garrett developed into the area's leading goalie with more than 150 saves on the year while recording five shut-outs. Other key defensive players include Nicolle Berryman, Kelsie Knox and Hannah Miles.
