The better the foundation, the more secure the building. MHBS Middle School Athletics aims to teach the appropriate skills that will allow each participant in the various sports to reach his or her potential.
QUICK FACTS

    MHBS ADDS JUNIOR HIGH FOOTBALL IN 2010-2011

  • MH has added a junior high football team in 2010-2011. The team held spring practice for the first time and opens play this fall. Check back for the official schedule.
  • The 2009-2010 sixth and seventh grade football team captured the city recreational league championship.

BASKETBALL HAS SUCCESSFUL SEASON

The seventh and eighth grade basketball teams completed successful seasons. The seventh grade boys finished with a 7-5 record. Included in their victories were decisions over LCHS (47-34), Muscle Shoals (43-42) and Phil Campbell (63-22). The eighth grade boys completed with a 12-10 record that included victories over Muscle Shoals (35-33), Rogers (69-35), Brooks (37-34), Deshler (45-29) and Lexington (42-39 OT). They defeated Wilson (36-26) in the opening round of the county tournament but lost to Brooks (45-65) in the semi-finals. Mr. Drew Stutts coached both junior high squads.

Ethan Smith led the seventh grade boys, scoring 17.5 ppg and was the team's leading rebounder. He scored a season high 32 against St. Joseph. Barret Hibbett led the team in assists.

Andrew Farris was the top scorer for the eighth grade boys, averaging 14.7 ppg. He made 59 three-point shots during the season and twice connected on six three-pointers in a single game. He was also the team's leading free throw shooter, making 44 of 58 attempts. Brandon Krieger was the team's second leading scorer (8.8 ppg) while Brooks Bergman and Logan Foote led the team in rebounding.

GIRLS ARE COUNTY RUNNERS-UP

Ms. Ginger Leigh coached the seventh and eighth grade girls' team. They finished their season with an 17-6 mark. Key wins came over Florence (45-31), Central (40-36), Deshler (47-43), Brooks (47-23) and Lexington (38-32). They defeated Waterloo in the first round of the Lauderdale County Tournament, Rogers in the semi-final round and lost a close game to Lexington in the finals.

7th and 8th VOLLEYBALL GIRLS ARE COUNTY RUNNERS-UP

The Junior Lady Panthers finished second in the Lauderdale County Tournament in early October. Hallie Abernathy, Bailey Plunket, and Ann Katherine Green were selected to the All-Tournament Team.

Qualified Christian coaches provide the leadership and direction necessary to assist young athletes establish and attain goals in life as well as in athletics. Ms. Ginger Leigh ('84) returned to coach the seventh and eighth grade girls' basketball team. In her first year she and assistant coach Mrs. Monica Ross ('84) led the squad to the Lauderdale County Championship game and a 17-6 record.
