STUDENTS ARE CHALLENGED TO 'PUT YOURSELF IN THE PICTURE!'
Life Day 2010 for students in grades 9-12 occurred at Camp Westmoreland on Wednesday, April 13. Eli Hooper of Sacramento, CA was the guest speaker for the day.
In addition to the lessons by Eli Hooper, faculty members shared brief devotional thoughts with students (Mrs. Jeanne Foust for the girls and Mr. David Williams and Mr. Jeremy Painter for the boys), students divided into small groups and led their own devotionals, prayer sessions, bible reading sessions, and singing sessions. Senior C. K. Irby began the day with a devotional lesson in the amphitheater.
As part of 'putting themselves in the picture,' students voluntarily carried a six-foot wooden cross through the camp to various locations. Pictures of large student groups at basketball games and other activities were taken and images from the life of Jesus superimposed over the MH group shots. Students were provided copies of the photographs to help them remember the day's theme.
In addition, students voluntarily experienced a 'fast' during lunch, using the funds that they would otherwise have spent on lunch to donate to Lifebread, a program designed to feed the hungry in Africa.
THE LIFE DAY TRADITION
Senior high school students have observed annual Life Day activities at MHBS for over 30 years. The full day of spiritual activities traditionally occurs in late fall but was moved to the spring this year in order to accomodate the schedule of Eli Hooper.
