MHBS AND THE POST-SECONDARY CONNECTION
MHBS expects its students to continue their educations after completing their work here. During the first decade of the 21st century, 99% of MHBS alumni attended college. For a list of colleges and universities who accepted our graduates over the past decade, please see the "college acceptance" section of the web site.
MHBS AND THE DUAL-CREDIT COLLEGIATE CONNECTION
Because the school operates on a block schedule that mimics college schedules, MHBS students are eligible to attend the University of North Alabama during their junior and senior years and take classes in an actual collegiate environment. Through a partnership with Northwest Shoals Community College, students are also able to enroll in "dual-enrollment" courses on the Mars Hill campus. The school also has a partnership with Heritage Christian University which allows students to take advanced Bible classes on their campus. It is common for MHBS graduates to graduate with 20 or more hours of earned college credit already completed. For more information on the MHBS college connections, call Mrs. Molly Brown, high school counselor at 256-767-1203, extension 231 or email mbrown@mhbs.org.
THE KEY TO LEARNING IS FINDING THE RIGHT INFORMATION
Research plays an important role in the education process. Classes require internet research and research-related projects as part of the curriculum. Reading for recreational purposes is also encouraged by the language arts faculty.
THE MARS HILL 'ACADEMIC ADVANTAGE'
- A block schedule that mimics college schedules and allows time for MHBS juniors and seniors to take college classes while still in high school. Many seniors graduate with 20+ hours of college credit already completed.
- An Early-Scholar Program that allows students to take courses at the University of North Alabama during the day. The timing of the block schedule and the close proximity to the UNA campus allows students the time to commute.
- A Dual-Enrollment Program with Northwest Shoals Community College that allows students to take college classes on the MHBS campus.
- A college-bound curriculum for every student. MHBS assumes that every student will continue his/her education at the post-secondary level, a fact that has been true in 99% of the cases over the past decade.
- A caring, professional faculty that works with students on a one-on-one basis.
- Honors and Advanced Placement Courses.
- Strong, academically-based extracurricular programs.
- School-wide preparation for the ACT.
