Now entering its third decade, the MHBS Rythym-in-Blue Band has grown to almost 100 members and is in constant demand to perform for local and state activities.

JAZZ BAND CONCERT SET FOR NOVEMBER 4, 2011; JAZZ BAND SELECTED TO PLAY IN BRANSON, MISSOURI ON NOVEMBER 12

The Jazz Band will host their annual Dinner Concert on Friday, November 4, 2011 in Morris Auditorium. The group has also been selected to play in Branson, Missouri on Saturday, November 12.

BAND PERFORMS AT CARNEGIE HALL DURING SPRING BREAK 2011

The Rythym-in-Blue Senior High School Band performed at Carnegie Hall in New York City during the last week of March 2011. The group traveled to NYC via AmTrac and toured the city as well as performing at Carnegie Hall.

A TRADITION OF EXCELLENCE

Although one of the newest campus organizations, the senior band quickly developed a reputation for quality. It has earned 17 consecutive superior ratings in district competition as well as superior ratings in music festivals from London to Hawaii. The group has also performed at historic Carnegie Hall in New York City. This is the band's 23rd year at MHBS.

JAZZ BAND INVITED TO "BIG BAND BLOWOUT"

The MHBS Jazz Band joined the UNA Studio Jazz Band, the Shoals Area Jazz Band and the UNA Marimba Band for the Big Band Blowout on February 6, 2011 at UNA's Norton Auditorium. The performance included big band favorites like Duke Ellington's "Perdido," Cole Porter's "Miss Otis Regrets," and Broadway hits from "West Side Story," "My Fair Lady," and "The Sound of Music."

MIDDLE SCHOOL/HIGH SCHOOL BANDS EARN SUPERIOR RATINGS

Both the High School Band and the Middle School Band earned Superior Ratings at state competition on March 10, 2010. The Superior ratings document MH's long-standing tradition of quality instrumental instruction.

    HISTORICAL NOTES

  • The first band concert was held in Morris Auditorium on May 7, 1989.
  • Mr. Steve Howard served as the band's first director.
  • Mr. Joey Krieger is in his 17th year as Director of Bands. He is a graduate of the University of North Alabama with Bachelors' and Masters' degrees in Music Education. His professional affiliations include the Alabama Music Educator's Association, Alabama Bandmaster's Association, The National Band Association and the International Association of Jazz Educators.
