LARIMORE FINALISTS
Congratulations to the 2010 Larimore Award Finalists! They are Stephen Ambrose, Rachel Berry, Elizabeth Bruce, C. K. Irby, Tara Jones, Emily Martin, Charlotte Muse and Hannah Rose.
NATIONAL QUALIFIERS!
Congratulations to juniors Amy Chiou and Connor Lyons for being named the top duo interpretation team in the state. They will represent Alabama at the National Tournament in Kansas City in June.
BOYS' STATE REPRESENTATIVES
The following students have been selected to attend the annual Boys' State sponsored by the American Legion: John Adams, Austin Collum, Colton Durdunji, Ryan Nichols, Taylor Stults, Randall Turner, Andrew Walker and Josh Wear.
2010-2011 SCHEDULE
Opening of School Prayer Service will be at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 8 with the first day of class scheduled for Monday, August 9. Other dates of interest: Columbus Day Holiday (October 11); Thanksgiving Holidays (November 22-26); Last Day of Fall Term (December 17); Classes Resume (January 4); Spring Break (March 28-April 1); Graduation (May 22); Last Day of Classes for Grades K4-11 (May 25).

Forensics Camp (June 28-July 9); Show Choir Practice (July 26-August 6)
Weather Make-up Days
Students will make up days missed due to weather. Please note the following changes still remaining: We will be in school full days on April 1 and April 15.
Don Meyer Is Benefit Speaker
The winningest collegiate basketball coach in NCAA history with more victories than Bobby Knight will keynote the annual Benefit Dinner on April 15. Meyer, who formerly coached Lipscomb University to an NAIA national championship, now coaches at Northern State University in Aberdeen, SD. He is the current recipient of the "Jimmy V Award for Perserverance" awarded by ESPN/ESPY. Meyer has survived a life-threatening auto accident and a battle with cancer that cost him one of his legs. He is in demand nationwide as a motivational speaker. Tickets are $125 per person. Contact Mr. David Willingham at extension 203.

Pannell Broadcasts 1000th Game
Ronnie Pannell, the voice of the Panthers, broadcast his 1,000th MHBS basketball game when the Lady Panthers played Wilson at home on January 11. The first game Pannell broadcast was in 1989 when the Lady Panthers, the defending 1A state champions, played Wilson, the defending 4A state champions. MHBS basketball is broadcast on WBCF 1240 AM, NewsTalk WBCF-FM 97.3 and is streamed around the world via the internet on wbcf.com.
Sophomore Signs Record Contract
Sophomore Savanna Smallwood has signed a recording contract with Bleve Entertainment, a new record label in Nashville. She has a track on the label’s first release, “My First Ride,” that includes songs by George Strait, Trace Adkins, Ronnie Millsap, James Otto, Kyle Brooks and 6 Fifteen. Savanna sings “T-Rain,” a song she performed in December for “A Country Christmas” at MHBS. She first sang at the MHBS Talent Show when she was eight years old. That night she performed Patsy Cline’s “Crazy.” Life has been just a little crazy for her ever since, having performed in over 500 shows at Country Tonight in Pigeon Forge.

Seniors Hannah Rose and Robert Walker were elected as the school's ideal students for the 2009-2010 term.
Madison Haney Named Student Ambassador in People-to-People Program
Sixth grader Madison Haney has been selected as one of the 2010 student ambassadors in the People-to-People Program founded by former President Dwight Eisenhower. She will learn later this spring which nation she will visit this summer as part of the program designed to bring the world together through education and friendship.
Google Doodle Winners
Congratulations to our school GOOGLE DOODLE winners! They are Dylan Thrasher, Cheyanne Golden, Brantley Jackson, Caitlan Grossheim, and Silas McGee. Their drawings will now be entered in the national GOOGLE DOODLE contest.
Tristan Sanders Wins Geography Bee
Tristan Sanders won the geography bee and qualified for the state finals later this spring.
